Orange Bowl Game Post

Happy New Year, Hokie fans! The Hokies are in the last game to kick off today, so you have plenty of time to get in the correct frame of mind before the Hokies go after their first BCS bowl win. While you're watching the New Years' bowl smorgasbord, don't forget that the Winter Classic is on NBC this afternoon as well. Yes, Ringer and Moreno will rock your face off today, but there aren't many things better than outdoor hockey. Especially when two Original Six teams are involved.

OK, enough hockey homerism. Go Hokies!

Post your thoughts on the game in the comments. Also, check out College Game Balls, who may or may not be live blogging during the game.

Oh, and before I go get hammered, here's some eye candy:

Hey Dawn, if you want to learn how to plug into the multbox or use Avid to even out your sound levels, I'm available (PS - I'll give bonus points to anyone out there who starts using "plug into the multbox" as a euphemism for sex).

Have fun, everybody!

Duke Game Post

Feel free to leave your thoughts on the game in the comments. I'll be tailgating and going to the OU-Texas Tech game tonight, so you'll get nothing from me today. However, the game's on ESPNU which means I can DVR it.

Maryland Game Post

I couldn't find video of my favorite play vs. Maryland the two years we played them. It was in the '04 game when Randall rolled right, looked back left and found Jeff King with no one within 30 yards of him. The rout was on after that.

It'll be great to be back in my second home today. Go Hokies!

Please leave your thoughts on the game in the comments.

Week 10 Game Post

Feel free to leave your thoughts on any game you'd like in the comments.

Once again, the bye week couldn't come at a better time. Both for Tech and for watching games that don't involve Tech. The Coke Orgy tops the list of games to watch, followed by a battle of the unbeatens in Texas. The undercard is lacking, but who needs an undercard with those two games I'll be tailgating and then attending the OU-Nebraska game, so there isn't a set watch list for me this weekend. But, you do get the return of the Bourbon Rankings.

Again, with apologies to B-Street, WTCFR and Big Daddy Drew:

4 Bourbons

1. Florida vs. Georgia (Jacksonville) | 3:30 | CBS

Winner is in the driver's seat for the SEC East and could get a shot at the National Title if they win out. Georgia's celebration in last year's game is getting way too much play. The Gators are more angry they lost the game.

2. Texas at Texas Tech | 8:00 | ABC

Texas has looked invincible, but it's a night game in Lubbock. Oklahoma went down against the Red Raiders in a similar circumstance last year.

3 Bourbons

3. Wisconsin at Michigan State | Noon | ESPN

Now that Wisconsin has gotten its first Big Ten win, it's a threat to play spoiler to teams with Big Ten and January bowl aspirations. First up is Sparty, which is still riding high after knocking off Big Brother.

4. Florida State at Georgia Tech | 3:30 | ABC/ESPN

The biggest game in the ACC this week. FSU is looking to put a choke hold on the Atlantic. Georgia Tech is looking to stay alive in the Coastal. It will be fun to watch FSU's offense against GT's defense.

2 Bourbons

5. Northwestern at Minnesota | Noon | ESPN2

The two surprise teams in the Big Ten square off. Should be an interesting game.

6. Miami at Virginia | Noon | Raycom

The other big game in the ACC. A lot will be learned about both teams.

7. Oregon at Cal | 3:30 | ABC

Eh, it'll at least be fun to watch.

8. Tulsa at Arkansas | 1:00 | GamePlan

Gus Malzahn vs. Arkansas.

1 Bourbon

9. Iowa at Illinois | 3:30 | ABC/ESPN

Shonn Greene is quietly having a huge year for the Hawks. The Illini's high-powered offense seems to come and go as it pleases.

10. Clemson at Boston College | 3:30 | ESPNU

Clemson has to win to have a shot at a bowl.

11. Nebraska at Oklahoma | 8:00 | ESPN

Just imagine it's 1971.

12. Tennessee at South Carolina | 7:00 | ESPN2

Just watch the first hour until the Texas-Texas Tech game is on.

Bye Week Game Post

Perfect weekend for a bye. Leave your thoughts on any game you'd like in the comments. Here are the games I'm watching. Keep in mind, I have a three TV set up in the living room. It isn't exactly Phil Steele's set up that he shows in this year's magazine, but it gets the job done.

Week 7
Noon: OU vs. Texas (ABC)
Noon: Minnesota at Illinois (ESPN)
Noon-thirty: South Carolina at Kentucky (Raycom Affiliate)
3:30: Tennessee at Georgia (CBS)
3:30: Notre Dame at North Carolina (ESPN)
3:30: Michigan State at Northwestern (ESPN2)
8:00: LSU at Florida (CBS)
8:00: Penn State at Wisconsin (ESPN)
8:00: Oklahoma State at Missouri (ESPN2)
9:30: Air Force at San Diego State (The MTN)
10:15: UCLA at Oregon (FSN)

Bye Week Viewing Guide

All games ranked on the bourbon scale (apologies to TSL's bourbonstreet and Wild Turkey CFR are in order): 4 bourbons = must watch; 3 bourbons = still great football; 2 bourbons = only if you have a rooting interest; 1 bourbon = just check the box score.

4 Bourbons

1. OU vs. Texas (Dallas)
Best game of the day, bright and early. OU's going to win by two touchdowns. How do I know? The ghost of Alfalfa Bill Murray told me. That's how.

2. LSU at Florida
I have no clue who's going to win this one, which is why I'm so giddy to watch it. I'll be rooting for Florida, though, and here's why:

3 Bourbons

3. Notre Dame at North Carolina
This game gets higher billing because I'm an ACC homer and it involves the opportunity to root against Notre Dame.

4. Penn State at Wisconsin
The Wisconsin band is back. But will it be enough to keep the Badgers from going 0-3 in the Big Ten? Probably not. I knew Wisconsin was overrated this year.

5. Oklahoma State at Missouri
If you're a fan of oodles of sweet, sweet, delicious points, this might actually be worth four bourbons to you. Plus you get to see Heisman candidate Chase Daniel(s) give me a fantasy team a victory, single-handedly.

6. Tennessee at Georgia
Tennessee's defense is good. But do you really think they're going to score more than 14 points this time around against the Dawgs?

2 Bourbons

7. Minnesota at Illinois
If the Gophers win, they're bowl eligible. Really hard to believe.

8. South Carolina at Kentucky
The Yin to the OSU-MU Yang. This one's for defensive-minded folks.

9. Air Force at San Diego State
Yes, I'm really high on Air Force this year. You get to see some hot flexbone action (that should be a porn title) against former Oklahoma OC Chuck Long.

1 Bourbon

10. Central Florida at Miami
Ugly.

11. UCLA at Oregon
I think both teams are down to their third-string quarterbacks. But it will be the only game on at midnight, so you might as well watch if you haven't passed out.

12. Purdue at Ohio State
This game is usually close.

13. The combined thrashings that will be Nebraska at Texas Tech and Colorado at Kansas
You only need to watch this if your favorite team is playing one of the teams involved next week.

14. Iowa at Indiana
Dude. Seriously. The OU-Texas game's on. Change the channel.

VT-UNC Game Post

Use this post to comment on the UNC game. Kickoff is at 3:30 p.m. and can be seen on ABC in the ACC viewing area and on ESPN for those receiving the Notre Dame-Michigan State game on ABC. If you're like me and the Miami-Texas A&M game is on ABC, you're S.O.L. and have to buy the Tech game on GamePlan. I know, it sucks.

VT-GT Game Post

Feel free to post your thoughts on the Virginia Tech-Georgia Tech in the comments. The game kicks off at 3:30 p.m. EDT and can be seen on ABC or ESPN, depending on where you live. The next two weeks are extremely important for Tech's chances at winning the division, Bryan Stinespring's job security and possibly Beamer's legacy at the school. It starts today against the Jackets.
