Let's Do Some Lines: Week 11

Because I have to get these done so early this week, the lines are from Doc Sports. For the third consecutive week, most if not all home teams are favored. My picks are in bold.

Maryland at Virginia Tech (No Line)
- Not surprisingly, there is no line on this game and is off the board at most books.
Georgia Tech +4 at North Carolina
- These are the two best teams in the conference right now. I'll take GT's because of defense.
NC State +4.5 at Duke
- I'll take the money line on the Pack as well, thank you very much.
Virginia +3.5 at Wake Forest
- Take the under as well.
Clemson +6 at Florida State
- Clemson finally looks respectable, but FSU's defense has been stout.
Notre Dame +3.5 at Boston College
- Good Chris Crane returns.

Other Teams I Like This Week

Ohio State -11 at Northwestern
- Although it's tough to bet against a quarterback named Kafka.
Oklahoma State -3 at Texas Tech
- Delicious, delicious points.
Air Force -10 vs. Colorado State
- Just like every week.
Kentucky +11.5 vs. Georgia
- Why yes, I am betting on a Georgia implosion. Why do you ask?
Ohio +2.5 vs. Bowling Green
- Reverse line movement strikes again.

Analysis: Showed poise for a young team on the road vs. UVa...finishes season with two road games...after bye week this week, will be one of three contenders with two games "in hand" against GT.

Virginia (3-2)
Wins: GT, UNC, umd
Losses: DU, MIA

Let's Do Some Lines: Week 10

Once again, every home team is favored this week in the ACC. All lines are from Bodog, the official illegal online gambling site of furrer4heisman. My picks are in bold.

Miami +2 at Virginia
- Miami had some trouble stopping the run against Wake. This pick is based entirely off of 'gut feeling'.
Clemson +4.5 at BC
- Tigers' O-line doesn't stand a chance.
Duke +7.5 at Wake Forest
- The Deacs can't be THAT bad, can they?
Florida State +2 at Georgia Tech
- The Noles have established themselves as the best team in the ACC. Which, of course, means they'll lose by two touchdowns.

Other teams I like this week:

Oklahoma -22 vs. Nebraska
- The Huskers are slow.
Iowa +3 at Illinois
- The Hawks are 3-0 ATS on the road.
Air Force -8.5 at Army
- Yep, I'm betting on Air Force again.
Texas Tech +4 vs. Texas
- A night game in Lubbock. And if you've watched the lines/public bet numbers, you know Vegas wants you to bet on Texas.
Louisiana Tech +5 vs. Fresno State
- Fresno is 0-5 vs. the spread in its last five games and 0-4 vs. the spread in its last four games vs. LT.

How I did last week against the spread:

Let's Do Some Lines: Week 9

Ah, this is more like it. Last week, most of the road teams win inexplicably favored in the ACC games. This week, every road team is at least a three-point dog. All lines are from Bodog.

Wake Forest +3 at Miami
- Miami can score a lot of points. Wake will triple its ACC touchdown total, but still come out on the losing end.
Boston College +3 at North Carolina
- UNC seems to think the sky is falling after losing to UVa. This week it gets back on track thanks to its D.
Duke +10.5 at Vanderbilt
- This would be a big win for the Devils.
NC State +11 at Maryland
- Both teams have been really good ATS. Something's gotta give. Maryland plays well at home and should cover. Last year's contest is famous for Ron Cherry's "Giving Him the Business" tribute.
Virginia +11.5 at Georgia Tech
- The Hoos are atrocious on the road. They won't win, but they'll cover.
Virginia Tech +5 at Florida State
- The spread could be 10 and I'd still take F$U.

Other Teams I Like This Week

Air Force -5.5 vs. New Mexico
- You'll also want to bet the over.
Purdue -1 vs. Minnesota
- Everything about this matchup says the Gophs should be favored. The fact they aren't means Vegas knows something I don't.
Kansas State +19.5 vs. Oklahoma
- K-State won't get blown out at home. Not with OU's pass defense.
Connecticut +1.5 vs. Cincinnati
- UConn has never beaten Cincy, but for the first time the best player on the field will be on its sideline.
Texas Tech +1.5 at Kansas
- Again, you'll probably also want to bet the over.

How I did last week against the spread:

ACC: 3-3
Correct: NC State, GT, Miami
Wrong: Wake, UNC, VT
Nation: 2-3
Correct: Tulsa, Northwestern
Wrong: AFA, BYU, Georgia

Year to Date:

ACC: 24-21-1
Nation: 21-17
Total: 45-38-1

Let's Do Some Lines: Week 8

Last week was horrible. I said taking three of four road teams would kill me and it did. Of course, the one home team I took didn't cover. All lines are from Bodog, the official illegal online gambling site of furrer4heisman.

Florida State -11 at North Carolina State
- All stats favor the Noles, except one: They are 1-6 ATS in their last seven against the Pack. Plus, NC State keeps improving and is at home.
Wake Forest -1.5 at Maryland
- I have no idea which Maryland will show up. I'm betting on bad Maryland.
Georgia Tech -2 at Clemson
- I hate to spoil the party, but Clemson's OL has no shot against GT's DL.
Miami -4.5 at Duke
- Duke has played Miami tough the last two years, but the spread isn't in the 20's anymore.
North Carolina -5 at Virginia
- Even without Brandon Tate.
Virginia Tech +2.5 at Boston College
- The fact BC is favored makes me wonder if Vegas knows something. Every other ACC road team is favored. It's a weird betting week.

I just took five road teams, four of which were favored. This won't end well.

Other teams I like:

Air Force -4.5 at UNLV
- Back to the well, again.
Northwestern -4 vs. Purdue
- Purdue isn't very good vs. the run.
BYU -1.5 at TCU
- They should win by two touchdowns.
Tulsa -17.5 vs. UTEP
- Bombs away.
Georgia -15 vs. Vanderbilt
- Like Duke, it was good while it lasted for Vandy.

How I did last week against the spread:

ACC: 1-3
Correct: UCF
Wrong: ECU, UNC, Clemson
Nation: 2-3
Correct: Minnesota, Air Force
Wrong: Oklahoma, Kentucky, Texas Tech

Year to Date:

ACC: 21-18-1
Nation: 19-14
Total: 40-32-1

Let's Do Some Lines: Week 7

After this weekend, we'll be halfway through the regular season in the ACC. All lines are from Bodog, the official illegal online gambling site of furrer4heisman.

Clemson +3 at Wake Forest
- This goes against what I picked at the beginning of the year. It also goes against conventional wisdom. Really it goes against everything. And that's why I'm picking the Tigers. No matter who wins, I don't expect it to be close. Someone is going to win this game by three touchdowns.
ECU -5.5 at Virginia
- This game looks a lot different than it did a few weeks ago. However, I'll still pick the Pirates.
Notre Dame +7.5 at North Carolina
- The ACC needs this one.
UCF +17 at Miami
- Would you believe Miami is 1-5 in its last six home games?

(Note: that's three out of four road teams. This won't end well.)

Other teams I like this week:

Oklahoma -7 vs. Texas
- Position-for-position, Oklahoma is the most talented offense in the country. O-line, receivers, tight ends, running backs, quarterback. OU is stacked at every position.
Kentucky vs. South Carolina (pick)
- Always take the home team in pick games.
Minnesota +13 at Illinois
- Would you believe the Gophers are 5-1?
Air Force -10.5 at San Diego State
- Back to the well.
Texas Tech -21 vs. Nebraska
- What's the over/under on shots of Pelini chewing with his mouth open and then screaming an obscenity at an official?

How I did last week against the spread:

ACC: 2-3-1
Correct: NC State, UNC,
Wrong: Maryland, Duke, VT
Push: FSU
Nation: 3-2
Correct: Oklahoma, Kentucky, Florida
Wrong: Air Force (damn!), Colorado

Year to Date:

ACC: 20-15-1
Nation: 17-11
Total: 37-26-1

Let's Do Some Lines: Week 6

Here are the ACC lines for Week 6 with my picks in bold. All lines are from Bodog, the official illegal online gambling site of furrer4heisman.

BC -9.5 at NC State
- I don't see a lot of points in this one.
Maryland -14 at Virginia
- UVa has quit.
UConn +7 at North Carolina
- Hopefully they'll play Sexton more.
Duke +14.5 at Georgia Tech
- This is a very even matchup. I'll take the Devils to cover. Amazingly, both teams are 3-0 ATS.
Florida State +2 at Miami
- This is a straight-up guess. I like FSU's talent and defense more.
WKU +27.5 at Virginia Tech
- Hopefully Hokies can keep the O rolling.

Other teams I like:

Air Force -6 vs. Navy
- I'm riding USAFA until it loses me money.
Oklahoma -27 at Baylor
- We'll see exactly how far the Bears have come.
Colorado +14 vs. Texas
- No way both will be unbeaten going to Dallas.
Kentucky +17 at Alabama
- Let down game?
Florida -25 at Arkansas
- Arkansas is terrible.

How I did last week against the spread:

ACC: 6-1
Correct: Duke, Maryland, FSU, Navy, USF, VT
Wrong: Miami
Nation: 2-3
Correct: UConn, Oklahoma
Wrong: Florida, Auburn, Fresno

Year to date:

ACC: 18-12
Nation: 14-9
Total: 32-21

Let's Do Some Lines: Week 5

Here are the lines from the ACC for Week 5 with my picks in bold. All lines are from Bodog, the official illegal online gambling site of furrer4heisman.

Virginia +7 at Duke
- Duke is favored. And they should be.
North Carolina +8 at Miami
- Until UNC's new QB proves themselves, I'm not picking the Heels.
Maryland +11 at Clemson
- Tigers' offensive line issues worry me.
Colorado +6 vs. Florida State
Buffs + humidity = fail.
Navy +16 at Wake Forest
Lots of points, unlike last week's Wake game.
South Florida -9 at NC State
- No W with out Wilson.
Virginia Tech +7 at Nebraska
- Please?

Other teams I like:

UConn +3 at Louisville
- Luhvull isn't as good as K-State made them.
Florida -22 vs. Ole Miss
- Unless Vandy is just a juggernaut.
Auburn -7 vs. Tennessee
- Betting against Tennessee may become my new favorite hobby.
Fresno State -7 at UCLA
- See above.
Oklahoma -19 vs. TCU
Stoops + revenge game at home = pain.

How I did last week against the spread:

ACC: 2-5
Correct: NC State, Georgia Tech
Wrong: UCF, EMU, UNC, A&M, FSU
Nation: 2-3
Correct: Air Force, Texas
Wrong: ASU, Tenn, Ole Miss

Year to date:

ACC: 12-11
Nation: 12-6
Total: 24-17

Let's Do Some Lines: Week 4

Here's a look at the Week 4 ACC lines with my picks in bold. All lines are from Bodog, the official illegal online gambling site of furrer4heisman:

East Carolina -7.5 at NC State
- Yeah, I know they'll probably get blown out. I don't care.
UCF +10.5 at BC
- Still unsure about BC's offense.
Mississippi State +8.5 at Georgia Tech
- Shutout?
Eastern Michigan +21 at Maryland
- Back to earth time.
Virginia Tech +3 at North Carolina
- I just have a bad feeling about this one.
Miami -4 at Texas A&M
- I've decided that, this season, betting on a road team that's giving points is about as smart as coming between John Holmes and a line of coke.
Wake Forest +4 at Florida State
- I've changed my mind on this game. It'll be high scoring, which favors FSU, IMO.

Other teams I like this week:

Air Force +8 vs. Utah
- I'm going to bet on the Falcons until they lose me money. Could be this week.
Arizona State +7 vs. Georgia
- Because they lost to UNLV last week.
Texas -30 vs. Rice
- Just like they did to UTEP.
Tennessee +7.5 vs. Florida
- Phil Fulmer is the worst coach in D-I, when you take into consideration how much talent he has had over the years. However ... At home. Getting points. It's not like Tennessee is bereft of talent here.
Mississippi -6.5 vs. Vanderbilt
- If Vandy wins on the road, I'll officially be impressed.

How I did last week against the spread:

ACC: 3-3
Correct: Duke, Georgia Tech, UConn
Wrong: Rutgers, Cal, Clemson (by half a point!)
Nation: 2-1
Correct: Air Force, Mississippi State
Wrong: Texas Tech (by half a point!)
DNP: Texas

Year to date:

ACC: 10-6
Nation: 10-3
Overall: 20-9

Lets Do Some Lines: Week 3

Here's a look at the ACC lines for Week 3 with my picks in bold. All lines are from Bodog, the official illegal online gambling site of furrer4heisman:

North Carolina +5 at Rutgers
- North Carolina is 0-20 in its last 20 road games outside of North Carolina.
Navy +1.5 at Duke
- Duke has played well so far and Navy didn't look too hot at Ball State.
NC State +18.5 at Clemson
- The key will be the NCSU offense (the stoppable force) against the Clemson defense (the movable object).
Cal -14 at Maryland
- When a good team plays a really, really bad team, bet on the good team.
Georgia Tech +7 at Virginia Tech
- To COVER. To COVER.
Virginia +11 at Connecticut
- But f4h, UConn needed OT to beat Temple! Who cares? Temple isn't THAT terrible anymore and the game was played in a tropical storm. If you have Donald Brown on your fantasy team, I have good news for you.

Other teams I like this week:

Texas Tech -36.5 vs. SMU
- Yeah, I know that's a lot of points.
Texas -24 vs. Arkansas
- Read my comment about the Cal game.
Mississippi State +10 vs. Auburn
- That's a lot of points to be getting at home.
Air Force +4.5 at Houston
- Don't know why, but I love the Falcons.

How I did last week against the spread:

ACC: 3-1
Correct: Ole Miss, Duke, Florida
Wrong: BC
Nation: 3-2
Correct: Temple, Air Force, Arizona State
Wrong: Notre Dame, Nevada

Year to Date:

ACC: 7-3
Nation: 8-2
Overall: 15-5

Let's Do Some Lines: Week 2

Here's a look at the ACC lines for Week 2 with my picks in bold. All lines are from Bodog, the official illegal online gambling site of furrer4heisman:

Georgia Tech +7 at Boston College
- If BC can keep from turning the ball over, they should cruise.
Ole Miss +8 at Wake Forest
- Should be the best ACC game this week.
Northwestern -7 at Duke
- The line has slowly been creeping up. I'll take the Dukies after they won in Evanston last year.
Maryland at Middle Tennessee State (No line yet)
Miami +21.5 at Florida
- Miami's not very good on the road. Florida's really good at home.

Other team's I like this week:

Temple +7 vs. UConn
- The Owls get points at home against a team with a banged up running back that isn't very good against the spread on the road.
Notre Dame -21.5 vs. San Diego State
- The Aztecs might be the worst team in college football.
Nevada +10.5 vs. Texas Tech
- Nevada's a double-digit underdog at home that can run the ball and put up just as many points as Texas Tech.
Air Force +3 at Wyoming
- The Joe Glenn farewell tour continues
Arizona State -14 vs. Stanford
- Forget the comeback win. Did you see how many yards Stanford gave up to Oregon State?

How I did last week against the spread:

ACC: 4-2
Correct: South Carolina, USC, Boston College, Alabama
Wrong: Virginia Tech, Baylor
Nation: 5-0
Correct: Utah, Missouri, Cal, Colorado, UCLA
Wrong: None

Year to date:

ACC: 4-2
Nation: 5-0
Total: 9-2

Let's do the First Lines of the Year

Bodog, the official illegal online gambling site of furrer4heisman, has posted its lines for Week 1 of the season. Let's take a look at the ACC lines:

Virginia Tech -9.5 vs. East Carolina
NC State +13 at South Carolina
Wake Forest -12 at Baylor
USC -20 at Virginia
Boston College -10 vs. Kent State
Alabama +5 vs. Clemson

Those are the only games Bodog is taking action on right now. Which ones do I like? At first glance, not many of the ACC teams. There also aren't many lines I'm willing to touch. I'm a big fan of taking teams at home that are giving a lot of points, which is Baylor and Virginia. But am I willing to put money on either to beat the spread? That's debatable.

But in the interest of being a good sport, I'll take a stab at picking all the ACC games ATS. My picks in bold:

Virginia Tech -9.5 vs. East Carolina
NC State +13 at South Carolina
Wake Forest -12 at Baylor
USC -20 at Virginia
Boston College -10 vs. Kent State
Alabama +5 vs. Clemson

The only true road team I'm taking is USC. That's not exactly going out on a limb, but we'll see how it plays out. Meanwhile, here are some teams I really like this weekend:

Utah +3.5 at Michigan
- Hell, I'll probably end up taking the money line on this one.
Missouri -8.5 vs. Illinois
- People underestimate how big a loss Mendenhall was.
Cal -4.5 vs. Michigan State
- And the Michigan State bandwagon loses a wheel before it gets going.
Colorado -11 vs. Colorado State
- This year's Kansas? Probably not, but they'll still destroy the Rams.
UCLA +7.5 vs. Tennessee
- Home dog + hatred of Tennessee = $

The last time the Vols ventured to the Left Coast:
