Week 4 ACC Power Poll

The ACC didn't lose a non-conference game this week. Yay, us!

Week 4
1. Wake Forest
2. Clemson
3. Georgia Tech
4. Virginia Tech
5. Miami
6. Boston College
7. North Carolina
8. Florida State
9. NC State
10. Duke
11. Maryland
12. Virginia

Notes
- No. 9-11 are almost interchangeable.

- FSU drops five sports after failing miserably at home. Carolina drops farther than I had planned due to the news TJ Yates is done for the year.

- Miami jumps BC for dominating in College Station. BC's offense looked bad until the fourth quarter against UCF.

- Georgia Tech played outstanding without Josh Nesbitt. Hmmmmmm... Nesbitt goes out and the Jackets don't fumble. Hmmmmmm...

- The Wake-Clemson game on Oct. 9 will decide the Atlantic. The VT-Miami game on Nov. 13 may decide the Coastal. I'm not sure the Tar Heels can move on without Yates.

This Week's ACC Games
Sept. 27
Maryland at Clemson, noon on Raycom
North Carolina at Miami, noon on ESPN2
Virginia at Duke, noon on ESPNU
Rhode Island at BC, 1 p.m. on ESPN360
Colorado vs. Florida State (Jax), 3:30 p.m. on ABC/ESPN
Navy at Wake Forest, 3:45 p.m. on ESPNU
South Florida at NC State, 7:30 on ESPNU
Virginia Tech at Nebraska, 8 p.m. on ABC

Three huge non-conference games, two meaningful conference games and Pillow Fight '08 between the Hoos and Dook. Hopefully VT/FSU/NCSU can go at least 2-1. I feel bad for the Tar Heels, having to go on the road to Miami the week after losing Yates. Maryland at Clemson has a little more intrigue after the Terps won the last two. I still expect them to get blown out, though.

yes, but ive seen worse a&m teams beat teams better than miami on kyle field.

i will admit that mike sherman is no r.c. slocum.

Just saying ... how impressive is pasting a team that lost to Arkansas State at home to start the season?

I'd say about as impressive as beating down on the dregs of the Southern Conference 115-7, and then guaranteeing victory only to score 3 points at home against a division rival.

Also, the standard deviation between you and HD on Maryland is shocking!

i had a feeling she would leave maryland at no. 3, which was one of the reasons i put them at no. 11. for some reason, the more i read her stuff, the more i dislike maryland.

there is almost no difference between bc and miami at this point. however, the canes have journeyed outside of miami twice, played tough against a top five team and rival and then went to one of the toughest places to play in the country and dominated.

miami should win their next three and bc should win their next two going into the vt game. unless something weird happens, it will hard for me to put bc over the canes before the bc-vt game.

you'll have performances against a shared opponent in UCF to compare the two squads before October 18.

true. also, remember, its a power poll, not a ballot ranking. if it were a straight ballot, id go strictly off results (and results vs. expectations) and vt would be no. 3, easily. however, to me, a power poll is based off both results and the "eye test".

you should let HD know about the distinction.

"The ACC didn't lose a non-conference game this week. Yay, us!"

'Cause UVA didn't play. That upcoming ECU game oughta be a scream.

I'm going to stab my eyes out if we lose to Dook.

i think they have dogs that can help you out next sunday. dont worry, it wont be any worse than when we lost to temple in 98. hell, we were favored against temple. and that was at home.

oh, and just remember that what gets posted tomorrow at 8 a.m. is all in good-natured fun. for the most part.
